This 9-ounce fabric selection is much like our #543 9-ounce E-Glass, except that it is woven from S2 fibers. As a result, this S2-Glass features extraordinary strength with a superior look and finish. Style 6781 is one of the most popular fabric for modern aerospace applications.
In the #1543, glass fibers are bundled and woven repeatedly to float over seven bundles, then under one. As a result, the fabric is flatter and more easily draped over the most complex shapes, especially when compared to plain weaves.

Both the #1543 S2-Glass and the #543 E-Glass share the same 8H satin weave construction and similar weight range, but the S2 fiber delivers significantly higher strength values. The #1543 achieves warp strength exceeding 250 lbs/inch and fill strength exceeding 200 lbs/inch, compared to the #543 E-Glass at >150 lbs/inch warp and >130 lbs/inch fill. This strength advantage comes from the S2 fiber itself, which offers superior heat and chemical resistance compared to standard E-Glass.
The aerospace satin weaves should be used wherever the highest physical properties are needed. In a satin weave, one filling yarn floats over several other warp threads before being stitched under another warp fiber. Threads run straighter for much longer in this loosely woven type, maintaining the theoretical strengths of the fiber.
Aviation relies heavily on lightweight, high-strength materials to improve fuel efficiency, performance, and structural integrity. The extraordinary strength with a superior look and finish makes it ideal for aerospace parts where standard E-Glass does not meet performance requirements. The S2-Glass is also suitable for high-performance marine and sporting goods applications where the higher strength of S2 fiber justifies the cost premium over E-Glass.
Once cut, satin weaves can unravel more easily because each thread is not held as tightly as in a plain weave.
To maximize strength properties of fiberglass, it should be used with an epoxy resin, and can be cured using standard lamination techniques with no special tools or methods required.
Available as cut-to-length yardage (#1543, min 10 yd), 1-yard roll (#1543-A), 3-yard roll (#1543-B), and 5-yard roll (#1543-C).
